These events joined together a number of societal actors - adults with roles in arts, media, and education, children who could make a difference, industry leaders - and gave them new tools to take back to their communities and create greater change. Additionally, the Civic Imagination group received continued funding and was able to publish two guidebooks to support educators and activists. In fact, Studio Areté’s founder was invited to contribute a chapter to Popular Culture and the Civic Imagination: Case Studies of Creative Social Change, “Dance to the Distortion,” which focused on the political influence of female pop stars following Trump’s election.

For the Civic Imagination Project, Studio Areté defined the Polaris as to design frictionless experiences that allow big ideas to shine. Nowhere was this more important than in the design for the Civic Imagination Project site and the Digital Civics Toolkit website, winner of BestEdTech’s “Top Pick for Learning” and “BestEd Tech” Awards. A collection of resources for educators to support youth to explore, recognize, and take seriously the civic potentials of digital life, the Toolkit draws on the work of the MacArthur Research Network on Youth and Participatory Politics (YPP). Studio Areté was instrumental in developing this research from written format into visual experience, utilising simple sans serif fonts, a soothing yet colourful palette, and playful icons to provide clear UX through a complex tree of options and exercises. Additionally, Studio Areté produced Civic Imagination workshops for both children and adults, providing support for everything from the Imagine 2040 Symposium, which brought together a widely diverse set of activists, practitioners, and scholars, and the Penny Harvest Workshop, which brought together 80+ 8-12 year olds from public schools across Los Angeles to explore creative brainstorming sessions about how to change the future of their communities.
